  1. The Hummingbird is without doubt the best flossing product out there. The large handle and shape means that you can get to the back teeth even if (like me) you are a clumsy flosser. However, I have now had four or so and none of them has outlasted their first batteries. I’m guessing that there’s a problem with the switch failing because I’ve had them either jam “on”… or when you come to replace the battery it’s dead for good. I’ve tried smearing some vaseline inside to try and stop the contacts corroding (I thought this was a clever idea). But no good.

So in summary… a good product, but expect it to be “disposable”.

  2. I have tried the Waterpik vibrating flosser but find that this product is able to get between my tightly spaced teeth much easier. The stains from tea between my lower teeth are visibly reduced already, and this is primarily because I’m actually flossing now – I hate to floss normally, it’s too messy and time-consuming, but with the shape of the flossing attachments it’s much easier to get between my teeth!

The vibration button isn’t definitely necessary (you can, after all, buy manual flossers in the same U shape) but once the floss is between the teeth I press the button for a few seconds, it vibrates as I move the flosser up and down, then I move on to the next space. It’s much faster and neater than normal flossing! I haven’t used the picks yet, no plans to.

At the risk of sounding lazy or cheap, I’ve found that the U-shaped flossing attachments will last for several uses before they get too frayed to use – I simply floss my upper teeth, rinse with water, floss my lower teeth, rinse again, then pour some mouthwash (most washes contain alcohol that kills any germs) then put the flosser away. I know replacement attachments aren’t expensive but the only place I have found them is on Amazon and other online sites, so I don’t want to be stuck with worn-out flossers!

  3. Mike says:

Far more effective than my mechanical toothbrush, at a fraction of the cost. It beats floss, too, as this is much easier to use. The picks will reach between your teeth and not get jammed like floss. They vibrate to loosen plaque, too. There are also floss attachments that I am not so keen on.

A very small and inexpensive, but powerful, battery operated flosser that makes flossing very easy and quick.

Very pleased with this. Difficult to find locally so I was glad to see it on offer. Very good value especially as no postage was charged.
